Robopac Helix 1 Automatic Pallet Wrapping and Pallet Handling System

Complete automatic pallet wrapping and handling system manufactured in 2017, containing a Robopac Helix 1 automatic rotating-arm stretch wrapper, powered pallet conveyors, pallet layer separation sheets, automatic pallet handling equipment, a pallet magazine and destacking system, load-positioning devices, and integrated safety systems. The system has been used with standard EURO pallets and half-EUR pallets and has a maximum production capacity of up to 55 pallets per hour.

Helix 1 uses a rotating wrapping arm while the palletised load remains stationary on the conveyor. This operating principle is particularly suitable for heavy, unstable, or irregular pallet loads, as the load itself is not rotated during the wrapping process. Stretch film is automatically applied around the pallet load according to a programmable wrapping recipe. At the end of the cycle, the film is automatically cut, secured to the load, and prepared for the next pallet. The Helix 1 provides up to 15 selectable wrapping programmes, which can be individually configured according to the product type and pallet-load requirements.

Pallet handling system includes a main pallet conveyor equipped with frequency-controlled electric motors and self-braking drives. The automatic pallet destacker separates the lowest pallet from the pallet stack and transfers it onto the conveyor, while the remaining pallets are retained until the next pallet is requested. The pallet-separation and release functions are pneumatically operated.

This Robopac Helix 1 is also equipped with an automatic overhead pressure platen for stabilising palletised products during stretch wrapping. Before the wrapping cycle begins, the platen lowers onto the upper surface of the pallet load and applies controlled downward pressure. The load remains securely stabilised while the rotating arm applies stretch film around the stationary pallet. After completion of the wrapping cycle, the platen automatically returns to its raised position. The installation also includes a separate system for handling pallet layer pads, separator sheets, or similar palletising materials.

The complete system is controlled by a Siemens SIMATIC S7-1500 PLC.
